Following on from the success of the XL450 system Protim decided that as PC technology was rapidly becoming more affordable, a PC based control system for the Maxi plant should be investigated.
The viability of the project revolved around two issues. The first was being able to find a SCADA package that was powerful enough to do the job at an affordable cost. The second was being able to arrive at a physically acceptable PC platform that was both rugged and easy to service.
The latter issue was neatly sidestepped when JCS developed a PC that fitted within an off the shelf panel enclosure. Though not rugged as such, the complete PC electronics could be "swapped out" within ten minutes. In the interim the plant could be run by using the JT186 MMI, developed by JCS as a low cost backup controller in case of PC downtime.
Site software is supported remotely by JCS using direct modem links to site and internet downloads to the Protim engineers when required.
